ABERDEEN PROVING GROUND, Md. — Sharing the Army’s high-tech story with the American public will help build a stronger military, a senior recruiting officer said May 13 during a visit to APG’s research facilities.
Lt. Gen. Benjamin Freakley, commanding general, U.S. Army Accessions Command, said many high-school students, parents and teachers are not aware of the Army’s cutting-edge research and development. Long-held incorrect notions about the military are difficult to break, he said.
“We need to change how people think about the Army,” Freakley said. “Who aren’t we telling the Army story to? Imagine if local high-school Junior [Reserve Officer Training Corps] kids could come out here to see technology, science, engineering and math. It would fire them up.”

Google Tech Talks June, 11 2008 ABSTRACT Kilim: Fast, lightweight, cheap message passing in Java. A million actors, 3x faster than Erlang. The message passing (MP) paradigm is often seen as a superior alternative to the typical mix of idioms in concurrent (shared-memory, locks) and distributed programming (CORBA/RMI). MP eliminates worries endemic to the shared-memory mindset: lock ordering, failure-coupling, low-level data races and memory models. It simplifies synchronization between data and control planes (no lost signals or updates), and unifies APIs for local and remote process interaction. Curiously however, there are no efficient frameworks for intra-process message-passing, except for Erlang. This talk describes a Java framework called “Kilim” to fix this state of affairs. Kilim provides: 1. Extremely lightweight user-level threads (actors) with automatic stack management, obtained via CPS transformation. 2. A simple type system that ensures actor isolation by controlling pointer aliasing in messages at compile time, and by ensuring linear ownership of mutable message objects. This permits safe, zero-copy communication. 3. A compact run-time library containing typed mailboxes (with optional flow control), user-definable scheduling and python style generators. Kilim is portable; one of our explicit goals was to not require changes to the Java language syntax or to the JVM. The Cupertino tech giant claims that Proview have damaged the iPad’s brand name and defamed its reputation, while Proview claim that Apple have infringed their trademark ownership of the iPad. This is because Proview produced an all-in-one desktop computer in 1998 called the iPad. Microsoft introduced us to their newly remained Windows 8 logo, which is an homage to the original Windows 1.0 logo of 1985 but with design influences from the metro UI found in Windows 8 and Windows Phone operating systems. Apple have been forced to settle the iPhone 4 Antennagate lawsuit with users and pay them . LG are due to launch three new L-series smartphone handsets next week at the MWC (Mobile World Congress) 2012 in Barcelona, Spain. The L3, L5 and L7 feature 3.2, 4 and 4.3-inch floating mass displays respectively and the two larger devices will run Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich with the L3 running Android gingerbread.
